Andrew Soernsen

Product Description: T-shirts

Mission Statement: Turk+Taylor is entering season two of our little home-grown business, still in the honeymoon stage. It's overwhelming to start a business from scratch, to consider that only two people are responsible for every decision and every task. An unsuccessful first season would have been our last. Luckily, it wasn't. Turk+Taylor had a stellar first season. We worked our way into a score of boutiques, mostly in metropolitan areas: San Francisco, New York, London, even Tokyo. A thousand t-shirts and counting. Damn if that isn't intoxicating. Even if we're only breaking even. Goodbye, boring t-shirt. Hello, Turk+Taylor. We start with hand-dyed organic cotton shirts. Each piece is screen-printed with limited-edition designs that will knock your socks off. They're sophisticated, charming and fun. And our colors alone will make you smile. We thought we could do better. I think we did. We thought you deserved better. You know you do. There. You're all out of reasons for not loving Turk+Taylor.

Dawling Designs http://studiomartita.googlepages.com/ estudiomartita@gmail.com

242 Mangels Ave. San Francisco, CA 94131 415-377-1061
Martha Arlene Rodriguez

Product Description: Images of retro Latinas, Loteria cards, sacred hearts and of course, Frida and the Virgen de Guadalupe are featured on boxes, mirrors, purses, picture pendants and art sandals (\"chanclas\".) This vibrant collection is an exciting addition to any home, desk or wardrobe and a definite conversation piece.

Mission Statement: In life, my goal is to be enriched by knowledge of our neighbors around the world, the differences and similarities, and to challenge the social diseases of bigotry, ignorance and the impulse to be an insular, homogenized nation. My hope is that my artwork reflects this goal. My paintings reflect my surroundings, my identity, and my family. Using acrylic paints I often begin with bright colored backgrounds to enhance the subject I will be painting. Recently I have been interested in painting images from my childhood: an aunt and uncle working on their farm, a great-uncle in his youth, my sister and myself as children. I also love to paint the female form. While fashion magazines promote the lean, angular shaped woman, I love the roundness of the female form. Many of my paintings have addressed the voluptuous shapes of women in every day dress, lingerie and as nudes. In all of my paintings, the subjects mimic my own Chicano features and color. After all, they are part of who I am. My collage / mixed media work focuses on the images of famous women. I add to the blank canvas a bright colored palette to reflect the warm climates of the world. Then I embellish the canvas with the ancient graphic designs from Africa, India, or Japan for an end result of distinctly Mexican icons in a universal setting. My line of jewelry uses beads from around the world, most often with vintage New Orleans Mardi Gras beads (circa 1940’s and 1950’s) thrown in to make a gris-gris (amulet). Add to that look a colorful assemblage of glass, stones and metals and you might even feel the rhythmic beats of a foreign land! I love the complicated mixing of the African, Native-American, Spanish and French cultures of America’s own eternal city, New Orleans. I am also inspired by the land of my ancestors, Mexico, and in particular two of Mexico’s most famous women icons: Frida Kahlo and The Virgin of Guadalupe.
